Although much care is taken to fix race dates to not clash with others in the region, the re-assignment to the same day of the Long Mynd English Championships race took a significant chunk away from the expected numbers. However, the 59 runners that did turn up enjoyed the tremendous views from Llantysilio Mountain, west of Llangollen, and the excellent weather giving perfect conditions for running as well as for re-hydrating in the beer garden of the 17th century Sun Inn at Rhewl. So thanks to the marshals, local community and the support of many of the local clubs, with Helsby fielding 10 runners.
Showing that not everyone slows down in the veteran years, Mark Palmer won the race (and clearly M50) in an excellent time of 58’21”, pushing the inform Helsby runner, Jim O’Hara, into second place. In 3rd place, first woman home (and W40 runner) was Andrea Roberts of Eryri in 60’ 45”.
