Craig Yr Allt    Sat 21st January    Results

Race Winner Ben Mitchell

"The fourth running of the Craig yr Allt Winter Fell Race was greeted with bright clear skies and a chilling temperature of 2-3 degrees Centigrade. 123 participants signed up for the race; many familiar faces but also several new faces that were keen to give fell running a go. This was the perfect race for them. Like in previous years, the organiser had signed the 6km course to enable those that cannot read a map to participate. However a few of the signs had been sabotaged immediately before the race which caused some minor confusion!

The race organiser and other volunteers spent approximately 15 man hours leading up to the race day, cutting back the dense vegetation which had advanced onto the race route to enable this race to go ahead. The mild winters in recent years is causing race organisers another challenge!

Ben Mitchell summited the first ascent of Craig yr Allt with Samuel Gregory and Hugh Aggleton in hot pursuit. Ben Mitchell, MDC (as he did at Skirrid) pulled away from the others and was on for a course record (set by Peter Ryder 29m 10s) . However he took a wrong turning near then end and lost about 75s and finished the race in 30m 2s. Hugh Aggleton (MDC) finished in second and Samuel Gregory in third. Katie Beecher (Les Croupiers) was the first lady, followed by Niki Morgan (Mynydd Du) and Emily Ford. The male team prize (top 4) was awarded to MDC (Ben Mitchell, Hugh Aggleton, Matt Stott, Ake Fagerang) and the ladies team prize (top 3) was awarded to MDC (Alice Bedwell, Emma Battensby, Karen Elvers).
