After much preparation, race day arrived in Conwy. It was overcast and warm but luckily for the runners the rain held off.
I've done the route lots of times and I know that the steep descents would have been like a waterslide!
Due to the last minute changes on the course we had 200m of red and white tape along the route, as well as arrows and marshals to make sure no one headed to the beach for an ice cream.
47 runners came along to take on this new race and we had some great feedback about the revised course. Despite having to remove the biggest climb of the route, we still managed to create an AS category race on the small hills of Conwy.
First over the line and now course record holder was Andy Thompson with a time of 46:57; second and third overall were Gavin Roberts (46:57) and Tristan Evans (47:37) closely followed by first V40 Mark Davies
(48:33). Fifth overall and first V60 we had an impressive run again from Stephen Jones (49:21), seven seconds ahead of first V50 Steve Toogood (49:29).
In the ladies race Sarah Harley was the clear winner by a 4 minute margin, in a time of 56:35. Second female overall was Becki Law (60:33), very closely followed by Ceri Belshaw (60:41). First FV40 was Victoria Whitehead (64:39) and Ellie Salisbury (72:24) rounded the categories off winning the FV50.
After the race most of the field headed back to HQ for a nice cup of soup and some drinks followed by the presentation.
Thanks to the nine, yes only nine, volunteers for giving their day up and making the event run smoothly. All the feedback was really positive so we'll be back next year.
